A comparison of soil liming requirement methodologies in temperate, Northern European pedo‐climates

چکیده
Background Liming agricultural land is essential to optimise crop yield and soil nutrients. Despite the importance of pH management in soils, liming applications have been decreasing United Kingdom for decades. There no comparison contemporary historical requirement (LR) methods Northern European, temperate climate mineral soils high organic matter (OM). Aims The aims this research were thoroughly comparatively analyse current methodologies ascertain which characteristics contribute LR reactions. Methods Analysis compared determining values common (Scottish Agricultural College [SAC] look-up chart, RothLime model), Europe States (Shoemaker–McLean–Pratt, Sikora, Modified Mehlich buffers), 30-min calcium hydroxide titration developed by University Georgia. Results SAC highly underestimated value acidic soils. buffers over or LRs. UGA method a cheap, easy accurate could be utilised OM but requires further calculation development. most associated with soil–lime reactions experiment measures exchangeability (cation exchange capacity loss on ignition, proxy, lime buffering capacity). Conclusions an opportunity create buffer calculators equations adapted These are suggested development, through larger diversity UK types grouped ranges. Including factors calculations may more therefore better resource management. Increasing accuracy site-specific management, used precision agriculture technologies, necessary tool conservation natural resources like limestone, managing use efficiency, optimising yields.

SOIL pH AND LIMING
When crops do not grow well, one of the first question an agronomist is likely to ask is “What is the pH of the soil?” The reason for this question is that soil pH tells us more about a soils ability to produce crops that any other single measurement. A measurement of soil pH is like a doctor’s measurement of a patient’s temperature. It gives an indication something may or may not be wrong, but...
متن کاملComparison of Seasonal Soil Microbial Process in Snow-Covered Temperate Ecosystems of Northern China
More than half of the earth's terrestrial surface currently experiences seasonal snow cover and soil frost. Winter compositional and functional investigations in soil microbial community are frequently conducted in alpine tundra and boreal forest ecosystems. However, little information on winter microbial biogeochemistry is known from seasonally snow-covered temperate ecosystems. As decomposer ...
متن کاملSoil Acidity and Liming
Soil pH, soil acidity, and their effects on plants The pH scale, ranging from 0 to 14, is used to indicate acidity and alkalinity. pH is a measure of the concentration of hydrogen ions (symbol = H) in the water contained in the soil. A pH of 7.0 is neutral, values below 7 are acidic, and those above 7 are alkaline (basic). The lower the pH, the more acid the soil. Each unit pH drop indicates te...

testing plays a vital role in any language teaching program. it allows teachers and stakeholders, including program administrators, parents, admissions officers and prospective employers to be assured that the learners are progressing according to an accepted standard (douglas, 2010). the problems currently facing language testers have both practical and theoretical implications but the first i...
Temperature and soil moisture interactively affected soil net N mineralization in temperate grassland in Northern China
Intact soil cores from three adjacent sites (Site A: grazed, Site B: fenced for 4 years, and Site C: fenced for 24 years) were incubated in the laboratory to examine effects of temperature, soil moisture, and their interactions on net nitrification and N mineralization rates in the Inner Mongolia grassland of Northern China. Incubation temperature significantly influenced net nitrification and ...
